MLC groups are canonical
Brother Vianney Ahn considers January,1972 as the starting date for lay Family of Mary groups (Sodality). Many such informal groups existed in Korea from 1972 to 1982. the final meeting of such a group was the Catholic Lay Community (CLC) with Fr. Augustine Song as moderator. Fr. Song's group held a retreat on October 8, 1982. More information is available in my document My Time in Korea, December 23, 2001.
Marianist Lay Communities "are a canonically recognized private association of the faithful in the Catholic Church. We gather in mission with Mary as our model and guide to bring Jesus into a world in need of justice and peace. Our favored means is by forming communities of faith-filled women and men. Our communities are in permanent mission for the needs of the Church and the world."

Aug. 8, 2012 Incheon
In 1987 the first Canonical Korean Marianist Lay Community was formed. This first group took the name "Bordeaux" after the city where Fr. Chaminade joined the underground Church during the French Revolution (1789-1799). A 25th year celebration of these groups was held in Incheon on August 8, 2012.
