Asian Zone Conference 2007

March 13, 2007

Issue # 156 - April 2007 Via Latina

Asian Zonal Conference

The Asian Zonal Conference (AZC) met on March 13, 2007, at the Chaminade community in Tokyo. This was the first time a “multi-unit” Society of Mary meeting was held.

This particular Zonal Conference was composed of the Superiors of the Regions of Korea and Japan and included the District of India. In attendance were Fr. Louis Kazuo Shimizu, the General Administration appointed as Acting-President/Convener, from Japan, Fr. Pascal Hong Young Lee was from Korea and Fr. Pragasam T from India.

Fr. Pablo Rambaud, the Superior of the Foundation in the Philippines attended as an invited participant.

The first order of business was the selection of the President of AZC. Fr. Shimizu was chosen for a three-year term (by the other two members-by-right). The Zonal Conference also approved the submission of a revised set of statutes to the General Council in Rome.

North East Asian Conference

At the first joint meeting of the Regional Administrations of Korea and Japan held in July of 2004 (North East Asian Society of Mary Conference, NEASMC for short!) Fr. Pascal Lee had visited Japan in connection with this Conference. This has become an annual joint meeting of the Regional Councils of Korea and Japan.
